MVP Features: What to Include (And What to Cut)

Every founder thinks their MVP needs more features. They're almost always wrong. Here's how to ruthlessly prioritize.

The 80/20 Rule of MVPs

80% of your value will come from 20% of your features. Your job is to find that 20%.

1. **Does this help users achieve their core goal?**

If not, cut it.

2. **Would users pay for this alone?**

If not, it's probably not essential.

3. **Can we fake it before we make it?**

Many features can be done manually before automating.

Admin dashboards (use a database GUI)

Advanced analytics (use Mixpanel/Amplitude free tier)

Multiple user roles (start with one)

Social features (likes, comments, shares)

Mobile app (start with responsive web)

User authentication

The core value proposition (1-3 features max)

Payment processing (if applicable)

Basic error handling

A way to contact support

If you can't describe your MVP in 3 bullet points, it's too complex.
